Everything Happens for a Reason!

Picture of Everything Happens for a Reason!

Our story actually starts over 20 years ago. I met Jack through my boyfriend at the time. The three of us spent countless nights shooting pool, watching movies, and playing a legendary game of Monopoly that ended with Jack flipping over the board — memories that always made us laugh. After my boyfriend and I broke up, Jack and I hung out a few more times before life pulled us in different directions.

Fast forward a few years: on my 23rd birthday, we unexpectedly crossed paths at a local pub. The moment I saw him, it felt as though time had folded in on itself. We slipped effortlessly back into our old rhythm, picking up exactly where we had left off, as if not a single day had passed. It felt familiar, warm, and strangely meant to be… until fear crept in. Fresh out of a traumatic relationship and not ready to open my heart again, I ended things — blindsiding poor Jack. I carried the guilt of that moment with me for years. But he never really left my thoughts. I knew he had moved to Langley, and whenever I ran into his cousin Richard, I couldn’t help but ask how Jack was doing. Part of me always wondered if our paths might cross again.

Then, in 2019, fate stepped in. Late one evening, my girlfriend and I decided to go to Northern Cannabis — a store I had zero desire to ever go into, but there we were. As we walked in the doors, behind the counter stood the very last person I expected to see… JACK!

In an instant, I became the giddy, glowing 16‑year‑old version of myself, the girl who couldn’t hide her excitement if she tried. I rushed in with a hug, lit up with joy. My poor girlfriend had no clue who this man was or who I had suddenly become, but in that moment, seeing him again felt undeniably right. Embarrassing? Maybe a little. Regretful? Not even for a second.

I eventually gathered the courage to go back on my own, and just like that, the easy, familiar spark between us came rushing back. The third time took a little more courage — liquid courage, if we’re being honest — because this time I was determined to do something I never did: give him my phone number. As luck would have it, they were having a draw, complete with slips of paper for your name and number. I filled one out as casually as I could manage, visited for almost an hour, and then handed Jack the paper as I headed out the door. I was sooooooo nervous but so proud that I took the plunge. Then I waited… and waited… and waited. And guess what? In true Jack fashion, he never called.

But fate wasn’t done with us yet. Eventually, I received a Facebook request from Jack Adams – a man who had never touched social media in his life. Shocked, thrilled, and with zero chill, I accepted immediately. We then started chatting via FB Messenger until i said it was eating up my data, asking him for his phone number. Texting turned into hanging out. We spent countless evenings together, reminiscing about old times. Having my long‑lost friend back felt like getting a piece of my heart returned to me.

I worked hard to show him I wasn’t going to run again — and somehow, beautifully, it worked.

Now, six years later, with two monster dogs in tow and a life full of second chances, I stand here ready to take this incredible man’s last name. Our journey wasn’t linear or perfect, but it was ours — filled with timing, courage, fate, and a love rediscovered. We couldn’t be more grateful to have found each other again… exactly when we were finally ready.
